It’s no secret that the internet is full of make money scams, it’s a minefield out there and so I thought I’d put together a list of some of the most reliable ways of earning money online right here! I have also included a few other ‘offline’ methods to make a few quid as some are too good to ignore.
Note: Some of these services pay in dollars but since this post is geared towards making money in the UK I want you to understand you would obviously be paid in the equivalent great British pounds once you receive the money.
1. Matched Betting
Top of the pile is the recently popular, risk-free matched betting method. This, like all these ideas, are for both guys and girls despite the consensus that sports betting is generally a male-dominated arena.
Thousands of people use matched betting to generate a second income. You don’t need to know anything about sports or betting and over 60% of people who start will have never placed a bet before in their lives!
It’s about following a method – If you can follow a Jamie Oliver 15 minute recipe then you can certainly matched bet.
The idea is you take advantage of free bets and bonuses that bookmakers hand out on a daily basis. Its simple to learn and you can earn your first £40 the same day you start! In general, you can expect to earn between £250 and £500 a month! This is the easiest and best way to earn money quickly! The amount you can earn depends on how much time you spend matched betting and how much time you dedicate to learning the advanced matched betting techniques. The basics are easy to learn, I can’t recommend this enough as a way to earn money from home. It is like getting a pay rise without asking your boss for one. It’s instant.
To understand how this is a risk-free way to beat the bookies best head on over to about Profit Accumulator. Sign up for a free account, watch the tutorials and the rest is history!
2. Sell Photos Using Foap
If Matched Betting hasn’t gotten you excited, then this just might. Selling photos you have taken can earn you cash whilst you sleep! This one lends itself well to anyone who has studied photography and those who have an eye for a great shot!
There are three ways to earn using Foap. Andrzej, Support Manager at Foap describes them in more detail below.
1) Add photos to your profile, caption and tag them. Add different tags referring to the objects in the picture and their themes.
For each photo sold on the Foap market, you get $5.
2) Join specific missions run by brands. Rewards range from $100 to $500 dollars for a single picture. That is quite a hefty sum to make if you follow the guidelines.
3) Add photos created by other Foapers to your album. Share photos that you believe are highly attractive, if someone comes across them while browsing your albums and decides to purchase it- you will receive a commission, even though you didn’t take the photo. It is similar to the way Pinterest users share their content. By sharing other people’s photos you become a Foap community trader and for each photo bought through your album, you get 0.25 cents.
3. Create an Online Course
(Rob Percival has earned over $2 million dollars selling on Udemy)
If you’re bilingual, why not teach a language? If you have come up with a tried and tested workout routine, why not create a work out video and sell it? Perhaps you have great advice and techniques on meditation and stress relief? Record informative and educational videos around a topic, get them edited up and sell them.
All you need is a platform to sell your video course product with. That is where Udemy comes in. Thousands of teachers across all subjects are creating video courses and making good money. Trust me on this, there are a few Udemy millionaires! Generating income every time your course is downloaded means you can generate residual income, now that is the dream!
4. Amazon’s Mechanical Turk Alternatives
This Amazon service (named after an 18th century chess-playing machine) lists tasks that vary in compensation and amount of work required. You browse through tasks, find one you like, complete the task and get paid. Typically you will be helping people create closed captions by listening to a video and writing what people say down, another popular one is mobile app testing. They are not hard and will earn you money from home.
The Mechanical Turk service is for US citizens only, I’ve done some research and found that CrowdFlower do the same thing and is available to UK citizens.
Crowdflower is a crowdsourcing site, just like Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, but unlike Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, CrowdFlower tasks are also spread out through its partner sites.
You can find tasks on CrowdFlower, FusionCash and Clixsens.
5. Become a Virtual Assistant
You can help others get things done who simply don’t have time and get paid for it e.g write website copy, arrange flights, accommodation and whatever else they require. If you want to see what kinds of jobs people are doing and learn more then you should take a look at these marketplaces: www.timeetc.co.uk/ PeoplePerHour.
6. Publish a Kindle eBook
Write a short story or go all out and write a novel, or maybe you know a lot about a topic, write about it! You can now self publish online with ease. Hell, you could even publish your diary from your university years if you think it’s pure gold? Then you can literally charge people to read it.
Amazon pay up to 70% of the eBooks price direct to you when you make a sale. So if you charge £1.99 and make 100 sales you will poket £133 minus tax of course.
There are Amazon tools to help you design and write your eBook. You just need a topic. It could just be your way to earn a few bucks.
Like selling a course online with Udemy, this is another way to generate residual income. Once the work is done you can keep generating income from it over and over.
7. Start a Website Or Blog
This one is a big-ol’-topic but you can monetize websites in a bunch of ways. The first thing is this though, you have to start one. It doesn’t need to be complicated these days either. With sites like Weebly and Wixx you can literally have a website up and online in minutes and for free.
I recommend that you create a website or blog around a topic you are interested in and know lots about. How about your favorite hobby, sport or football team? Writing content is easy when you know about something, its not fun writing about finance if you hate the subject so pick wisely. Here are the most popular ways you can monetize your blog or site:
Guest/Sponsored Articles
Once you have built your site and have a few visitors you can monetize by allowing people to post articles on your site in return for payment. Lots of those can be a monthly or yearly recurring payments, you will need to build up some traffic before people are willing to pay. Don’t expect to be able to charge on launch day. Truth is, so long as you write interesting and useful content for your audience then it will help build authority and bring visitors.
Offer Ad Space
Insert ad space on your site. You could use Google AdSense for instance. Google AdSense is the biggest advertising network on the planet. You can choose to get paid per impression (CPM) or per-click. (CPC). With CPC you are only rewarded with payment when someone clicks the advert on your site.
Cost-per-thousand-impressions (CPM) is a version where advertisers pay you a fixed price per thousand ad impressions. No click on them is necessary for you to earn from AdSense.
The last ad type is cost-per-engagement (CPE). Here, the advertiser is defines an action the visitor needs to fulfill before you get paid, an action could be expanding the ad, watching a video ad, finishing a poll, etc.
Affiliate Marketing
This is a favorite of mine. If your website is built around, let’s say Horse health then you could find a bunch of related products on Amazon. Perhaps grooming products, supplements, Golly Galoshes and a decent winter blanket. Write an article about how to keep your horse healthy. Use a title like “16 products you need to keep your horse happy, clean and warm this winter.”
Insert affiliate links throughout the article. If anyone follows the link and buys the product you will receive a percentage of the profits. Use https://affiliate-program.amazon.co.uk to get set up with Amazon affiliate links. There are of course other places to get affiliate links but let’s not get too involved in this post.
It’s important you know the products and services you promote are great and come with second to none customer support. Ideally, you will have used them yourself. At least phone up support and ask a few questions. Are they nice and friendly? Did they help solve your issue? That is exactly why I mention starting a blog or website on a topic you’re interested in or have experience with. You’re going to lose authority and thus readers if you promote poor products or services that don’t do the job or even if they are awesome but have terrible support.
To be honest, you don’t even need a website to be an affiliate marketer, you can link to affiliate products on a blogging platform like Medium. Blog away on Medium, create top ten lists. Spend a Sunday researching a topic like “top ten Udemy earners and then link to their courses using Udemy affiliate links. The internet is about opening your eyes and getting stuck in there with content creation. You could start an online second income in hours, you just have to….. start!
Product Reviews
That leads me to product reviews, you can review products all day long on your site. Make sure that it’s a product you have used for a while to get a good understanding of what is great about it and where it falls short, be sure to talk about what you get for the price. Sometimes a budget item isn’t the best on the market but what you do get for the price really makes it a great product. If your blog has enough readers you can reach out to companies offering review services. That way you will get free products and they get publicity. It’s not a bad place to be.
8. Fiverr / Freelance Work
If you haven’t heard about Fiverr, have you been under a rock?
Fiverr is full of crazy and wonderful ‘gigs’. A gig is a micro job you are willing to do for someone else for a fiver ($5) about £3.50 to you in the UK.
Did you know PewDiePie even got in trouble for blogging about a certain gig he bought on Fiverr once?
You could offer a proofreading service, copywriting, translation, blog post idea creation, custom birthday card creation, photoshop services, photography, SEO, write someone’s name in rocks on your local beach and take a photo for them, offer voice overs, a video greeting, caricatures.
The opportunities are endless, take a look over at Fiverr to get some inspiration on the types of gigs people offer.
9. Sell Books, DVDs and Video Games
Do you have lots of old unwanted books DVDs or Video Games? Head over to https://www.webuybooks.co.uk and sell them all.
10. Roamler
Roamler is a bit like CashFlower but for the offline world. You could use both CashFlower or Swagbucks and Roamler together to monetize your online and offline worlds!
First get the Roamler app. Next, you need to find an invite code. Google about for this I found a code via forum pretty easily (I managed to get one in a few days from a user of a random forum I found) Once you have a code, start doing tasks offered by the app in the real world.
One I completed recently was for Peperami sausages, they wanted to know how the stock was presented inside Sainsbury’s stores. That’s where the Roamlers come in. You go wherever the task takes you – complete the task which normally involves taking pictures and answering questions on the app. You get paid into your Roamler account after the task is accepted as complete. You can withdraw straight to Paypal.
It’s pretty cool way to earn extra money especially if you get out and about lots anyway. Some Roamler tasks are worth up to £20!
This was taken from the Roamler blog – ‘Roamlers’ have been doing tasks in bars across the United Kingdom. They have been checking Stella Artois, Corona, Bud Light, and Budweiser (currently with a £10 reward!). These checks return every month to the same bars and are therefore well worth getting to know. The best part of the checks is that they are simple to do and that they unlock a beer bonus task with extra financial rewards of up to £20 or more! The Slug and Lettuce Corona check is also a great one for the beer lovers; who wouldn’t love getting paid to order a free Corona”
11. Rent Your Car Parking Space
Spacehopper connects sellers with buyers! You can list any parking space you own on Spacehopper (e.g your driveway) when people use it you get paid.
As a seller, you must describe your space, what it is like and add a photo, and of course, add how much you charge for it. Its free to list your space.
You can have the website allow instant bookings or you receive a notification and once you are happy you can accept the booking.
You get paid into your Spacehopper account and can withdraw the money whenever you want.
Parklet or Just Park are others that do the same thing.
12. Rent Your House For Filming
Shootfactory and Creative Location are film location agencies that help filmmakers and photographers source charismatic and interesting shoot locations. Don’t think that a film location needs to be glitzy, every requirement is different. You could earn hundreds of pounds a day if your property or land is rented. Be warned though, you will have an army of people in your house at one time if you are chosen and go through with it.
13. User Testing
User Testing pays $10 a pop for testing websites and apps. A test usually takes about 15-20 minutes. The idea is you record your screen and comment on how intuitive the website is to navigate and use. It is extremely useful for a business owner to watch someone, who is new to their site, try to navigate it. The information they gain is highly valuable and you get $10 per review for your time! check out https://www.usertesting.com/
14. eBay
This is an interesting fact. The average house has over £1000 worth of unused ‘stuff’ that can be sold online. The idea is you have a good old clearout and sell everything you don’t need or use anymore. If you haven’t used it in over 3 months sell it!
You could start an eBay shop too. You buy low at wholesale outlets and sell high. You don’t want to jump straight into that though. Start by selling a few of your old items on eBay first then if you like it research into what it takes to open an eBay shop.
15. Youtube
Youtube allows you to create your own channel where you can upload videos. In a nutshell, you can monetize your video uploads to allow advertisers to place adverts over your content, this will generate you money when people watch your videos. They key is to upload around a popular topic or create ‘how to’ videos.
Once you have earned $100 you can withdraw. There are of course other ways to monetize your channel. Once you have enough followers you can sign up to a social influencer agency. They will suggest products for you to review or mention in your vlogs. This means you can generate multiple income streams via your youtube empire. It’s normal for Youtubers to build a merchandise shop and sell t-shirts, mugs etc.
16. AirBnB
Own a property? – Rent out the spare room(s). It’s pretty simple.
17. Rent Your Stuff For Money at Fatlama
I’m talking about renting your neat equipment to other people on Fatlama.com. Popular items people rent include drones, microphones, SLR Cameras, speakers, power tools. If you own any specialist kit why not rent it until it pays for itself and more. Free stuff! Bosh! What if your stuff is damaged or never returned? Exactly, what I thought until I found Fatlama.com. They insure everything up to £25k. I have successfully rented my Pioneer CDJS 3 times in the last three weeks earning me over £150. Highly recommended. The top earners on Fatlama are bringing home £3k to 5k on the regular. Get £25 free credit if you use this link.
18. Sell Your Old Phone
https://www.mazumamobile.com/
19. Tailster
I’ve got two cats and when me and the girlfriend go on holiday we want to know they are looked after well. Tailster is the answer. You create a profile for your pets so that the sitters know exactly what they are dealing with. You could have a dog with medical needs for instance and so the sitter needs to know this. The profiles include your pets name, a picture, their ages and general needs. You can have home visits for cats and dogs plus you can have your dogs walked every day. Nice! We have even had our cat sitter live in our house whilst we are away. 24/7 attention. Purrrfect.
So if you love animals and like walking in parks or playing with house cats then this could be a nice little earner for you. Check out Tailster, look after other peoples animals and earn coin!
20. Home Based Work For Companies
Head on over to https://www.indeed.co.uk/ and search for ‘Home Based Customer Service’ also try ‘Home Based Work’. The list will comprise of mostly job you can do from home, you get the odd random job that isn’t applicable but it’s a great eye-opener to see what is on offer.
https://comparisons.financesonline.com/liveops-vs-itouchvision-customer-service
21. Get Paid To Lose Weight
I am not sure if this is available in the UK but it’s pretty interesting so I thought id mention it. You set the amount of weight you want to lose and in what time frame and the website will tell you how much you will be paid if you achieve your goal. No idea how this is funded but it is a real site and people have been paid 1000’s for hitting their goals. Worth a look for sure! Visit https://www.healthywage.com/ for more information.
22. Swagbucks
These guys reward members with free gift cards and cash for performing tasks you probably already do online. For example, shopping online, surveys, and watching videos. It’s not going to make you rich, but it may just be worth checking out!
23. Sweatcoin
Ok, I like this one so I’m going to do a mini sweatcoin review – This is similar to number 21, however, this app 100% works for Uk Residents. Sweat for coin! You earn sweatcoins and can use them to buy featured products and services on the site. Totally legit and worth a go if you’re a keen runner or dog walker for example or even if you’re just on a health binge! Make it pay! www.sweatco.in The biggest and best items in the store are the iphone x and £1000 cash via paypal. Get running!
Conclusion
There are so many wacky and wonderful ways to earn extra money here in the UK. In my opinion matched betting is the best by a long way but there are others too as I’ve shown.
You can certainly combine a few of them and maximise your second income that way. They key is to get off your arse and start something! The funny thing in life is that the luckiest people always seem to be those that work hardest at something and see failure as a way of learning what doesn’t work! Get back up and crack on. It really is the only way.

In 2018 I made over £600 in 6 months renting my audio equipment using Fatlama.com. I made an average of £60 per rental. Sometimes more. I’m talking about renting your neat equipment to other people via rental site Fatlama.com. Popular items people rent include drones, microphones, SLR Cameras, speakers, power tools basically anything. If you own any specialist kit why not rent it until it pays for itself and more. People take it on trips for weekends or even longer. It a passive income money making a machine with relatively low work. It is free to list your items and so you have nothing to lose in giving this a try.

10. Sell Books, DVDs and Video Games
Do you have lots of old unwanted books DVDs or Video Games? Head over to https://www.webuybooks.co.uk and sell them all.

Conclusion
There are so many wacky and wonderful ways to earn extra money here in the UK. In my opinion matched betting is the best by a long way but there are others too as I’ve shown.
You can certainly combine a few of them and maximise your second income that way. The key is to get off your arse and start something! The funny thing in life is that the luckiest people always seem to be those that work hardest at something and see failure as a way of learning what doesn’t work! Get back up and crack on. It really is the only way.
